Something Old, Something New...

Something Old - Signifies a sense of continuity and tradition: the "old" was the handkerchief tucked in Cindy's wrist coursage- it belonged to her mother's grandmother, Charlotte Ann Watkins.

Something New - Signifies the couple’s new beginning: the "new" was the wedding attire.

Something Borrowed - To remind the bride that friends and family will be there for her when help is needed. The object should be borrowed from a happily married friend or family member. Hmm, guess the "borrowed" was the masking tape (belonging to Cindy's parents) that was holding the sixpence in her shoe.

Something Blue - Blue represents fidelity, love, loyalty and purity: of course the "blue" was the wedding gown.

And a Sixpence in her Shoe - Signifies both financial wealth and a wealth of happiness and joy: sixpence obtained by Jay and placed in Cindy's shoe by her father.

The Legend of the Sixpence Wedding Tradition:
During the early 1600s the Lord of the Manor would present a sixpence to the bride as a wedding gift. Toward the end of the seventeenth century it became customary for the bride’s parents to include a lucky sixpence as part of the dowry gift to the groom. In Victorian England the tradition evolved so that the lucky wedding sixpence was given to the bride by her father- he placed the coin into his daughter’s left slipper to bring the newlywed couple a lifetime of good health, happiness, and bliss.

Meetings: Online Dating

Jay and I met online- yikes! For the record, posterity and all that, I have recorded the personal profiles that we each had posted online... As you will see, Jay's is far more interesting than mine.

Cindy's Profile:

Hi... thanks for stopping by. What am I like? Well, I like humor and laughing, I like to explore new ideas and learn new things, I like to do things with people and have quiet time alone, I like to walk and camp, go to movies, dinner, bookstores, museums, plays, the art walk, the beach, arboretums, antique/thrift shops, and just about anything with someone whose company I enjoy, including simply talking and drinking wine while fixing a meal. I swim and exercise with a weight machine regularly, although I am not really very athletic. I am honest, introspective and passionate. A major interest of mine is computers; I have my own website that I write the html for, which I have just learned to do in the last year, taking two classes at the local community college. I write a new web page every month that contains jokes, pictures, reviews of books, movies, plays or music I have recently come in contact with, stories about my work with people (social worker), stories about my life, thoughts about current events, philosophy or ramblings, pictures and stories about friends, family and co-workers, and anything else that tumbles out of my mind. I work with people for a living and still find connecting to another human being thrilling. I am in a transitional time and mostly just want to meet people, but my expectation and hope is that life will allow me to find someone eventually who touches my soul.

My ideal match? My guess is, whatever ideal I come up with, there could well be a guy with few of those characteristics that I could still be enamored of. However, here goes: I like men who like to laugh and hold hands, who like to tell me about themselves, who have their own interests and hobbies, who are as old on the inside as on the outside, who are comfortable interacting with people, are a bit introspective and thoughtful- meaning both kind and full of thought, and who are perfectly capable of existing in this world by themselves, even though they would like someone to share their world with. I admire people who know how to be both assertive and kind, and I like positive people.

Jay's Profile:

MR BADGER1
"I'm a stranger here myself"

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won weekend passes. Last summer, I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration team. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. While on vacation in Canada I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who has seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me. I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and all my bills are paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prize-winning clams. I have played Hamlet, and I have spoken with Elvis. I have been known to exaggerate for humorous effect.
