Addition Pics 6-14-08

We finally have the living room addition finished. We had the builders do the trim around the windows and the top of the half wall between the room and the stairway, but opted to paint that trim ourselves. We also put in the baseboard trim ourselves and painted it. It is surprising how much work painting white trim is, with the sanding then painting then sanding then painting then smoothing with steel wool. The top of the half wall took even more work, as I could not get it to look smooth or even-toned when the light glanced over it as you went down the stairs. The top board is the usual suspect these days, MDF. After 4 coats of white paint Jay suggested the MDF just wasn't painting evenly so I put a coat of Kilz on it, sanded and then added a last coat— it did the trick well enough to stop the insanity. After finishing the last of the painting here this week, we moved the computers and desk up and then hung the other large blind this evening. The room looks good. We still need to get cabinets and other furniture set up, the TV back out of storage and pictures on the wall, but all-in-all it is done and it looks good.
